The private island at Sandals Royal Caribbean, officially known as Sandals Island, is one of the resort’s most unique features. It offers an exclusive escape just minutes from the main resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
What’s on the Island?

Secluded Beaches
The Island is surrounded by beaches with several areas with lounge chairs. Another beach is designated as a clothing-optional beach, offering maximum privacy and relaxation.

Overwater Bungalows
The island is home to Sandals’ famous Over-the-Water Private Island Butler Villas and Honeymoon Bungalows, complete with glass floor panels, private infinity pools, overwater hammocks, and direct sea access.

Royal Thai Restaurant
One of the most unique dining experiences at the resort, Royal Thai serves authentic Thai cuisine in a romantic overwater setting. It’s open for dinner and included in your stay, but reservations are required.

The staff has always been great at Royal Thai, encouraging us to try more dishes than we planned. The food is very good and it is one of our favorites of all Sandals Resorts restaurants.

The Jerk Shack
The Jerk Shack is open for lunch. Each day, you can order a variety of local favorites like Jerk Chicken, Pork and sausage, fish in foil, sweet potatoes and festival.
Pool & Swim-Up Bar
The island has its own pool with a swim-up bar, loungers, and shaded areas — perfect for spending a lazy day away from the main resort.

Red Lane Spa Gazebo
The island also features a spa treatment gazebo, where couples can enjoy massages right on the water with views of the Caribbean Sea.
Wedding Venue
Sandals Island is a stunning location for a destination wedding and is the most popular venue on the resort. It offers beachfront ceremonies and private receptions with panoramic views. It’s a favorite for couples who want a more exclusive, intimate celebration.
Private Cabanas
Located on the islands are private cabanas you can reserve during your stay. They come at an additional cost and come with a butler to take care of anything you need during your day. It also allows you to come over to the island earlier than anyone else.

How Do You Get There?
A complimentary boat shuttle runs from 10 am to 10 pm, ferrying guests to and from the island. The ride is quick and scenic, offering views of the overwater suites and coastline.

Pro Tips for Visiting the Island
- Go early for the best beach chairs, especially if you’re visiting on a sunny day.
- Book dinner at Royal Thai as early in your stay as possible; it fills up fast.
- The island closes in the evening after dinner service unless reserved for a private event.
Whether you’re lounging in a hammock, sipping a cocktail at the swim-up bar, or getting married with the ocean as your backdrop, this exclusive retreat is one of the top reasons couples choose Sandals Royal Caribbean over other Montego Bay resorts.
